Teens! The Library Wants You!

Teen Advisory Council
Teens Top 10 Reasons
for Joining the TAC
  1. The free food!
  2. It’s fun! Everyone is friendly and we are all here for a common purpose.
  3. We’re famous! We have been in the newspaper and we are on the library website!
  4. We get first dibs on new books and movies.
  5. It looks good on a resume and college application.
  6. When authors come to Charlotte we get to work behind the scenes.
  7. We plan fun events.
  8. We make a difference and have the opportunity to take an active role in the community (yes, a teen wrote this!)
  9. We get to dress up for photos instead of making the library use “fake people”.
  10. We are able to express ourselves and be creative.

Who better to tell the library what interests teens have than teens themselves?

The library strives to provide excellent service to teens. We rely on our Teen Advisory Councils to provide us with the input we need to assure that we are providing the best service, programs and library materials possible.

TAC groups meet at least once monthly to participate in fun activities as well as discuss, plan, help promote, and participate in library programs. They assist in developing the library web site, help select library materials, and help design new teen spaces.

If you are in grade 6-12, you can join this influential group and make your voice heard at the library!

The Loft Teen Advisory Council

Since July 2003, The Loft Teen Advisory Council has been shaping teen services at the library - and you can join! The Loft Teen Advisory Council has already put together several teen related events including “Slammin’ Teen Poetry Share,” which coincided with National Teen Read Week in 2003 and the "It's Alive @ Your Library!" Party in 2004. If you have ideas, or would like to join, ask at your local branch or email us.

Freedom Teen Advisory Council

Freedom Regional Library has a new Teen Advisory Council!

Meet Our Members

The council meets at Freedom Regional Library at least once a month to plan and assist the library with programs and events, and discusses other relevant issues. This active group has already planned an Open Mic Night, a program making handmade cards, and a program on how to get your writing published. They have been a focus group for the Teen Health Connection web site and are involved with planning the Unity Youth Forum.

Freedom TAC has also met with Freedom manager to discuss teen & library issues and have come up with several workable solutions for a few library related problems. The TAC members have volunteered for programs with the NASA exhibit.
