What is the most memorable book you read as a teenager?
Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
What did you think that you wanted to do as a career?
As a kid, I wanted to be a lawyer. In my late teens and early twenties I thought I wanted to be a teacher so I got my first college degree in education and certification to be a school teacher. I don’t regret this decision because I do find myself in a teacher role quite often as a teen librarian.
Was there a teacher or other adult that influenced you? What did you like most about them?
My middle school theatre teacher had a huge impact on me. She is the first person that ever treated me like a real person instead of just a kid.
What's the best advice anyone ever gave you as a teen?
The same teacher above gave me a Billy Joel album and said, “Listen to #5 – remember you only to get to do this once.” To this day I still think about that song.
Slow down you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight
Too bad but it's the life you lead
You're so ahead of yourself
That you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong
But you know you can't always see when you're right
You got your passion you got your pride
But don't you know only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true
What was your worst job?
Easy. I worked in a bakery and had to be at work at 5 a.m. That’s my worst nightmare.
What are your hobbies?
I’m a workaholic, so my hobbies are pretty limited these days. Because of my freelance work as a consultant I do get to travel a lot, so that’s probably the best answer I have to this question right now. Someday soon I plan to get a life!
What is your favorite music?
Honestly, I like country music. A lot of people find this strange, but it’s true. And then there’s my iPod - which has an amazingly eclectic mix of musical genres on it including 70s rock, rap, folk, hip-hop, classical, old and new country, showtunes, and bluegrass.
What is your favorite television show?
“Lost” - hands down the best show on the air right now. Well that and “Next” on MTV! I’m kidding.
